The shoulderbag I was using so I wouldn’t have to carry my enormous knapsack all over Montreal turned up at the Metro lost-and-found office. Unfortunately said office was closed today, and I’ve been without my journal and notebook. That’s been making me a little crazy.
It’s not been all bad, though. I got to see my old friend Lindsay and several of her friends. We climbed the mountain yesterday, and today we visited the Tamtams. Drumming helped me forget about the bag.
(I’m afraid my Discovery Pass may have been removed from my bag by whoever found it, or by someone else. If that’s the case my trip is essentially over – I may not even make it to Burning Man.)
Getting to the Gathering is also posing a problem. Greyhound will take me as far as Sherbrooke, PQ, but from there it’s another 60km to the actual site. Since Craigslist has failed thus far to provide me with a rideshare, I’ll have to either hitchhike or – failing that – walk the 60 kilometres, which amounts to a two-day hike with a heavy backpack on. I could maybe do it in a day, but my body wouldn’t be very happy about it.
Not a very interesting entry, I know, but in the absence of my journal this outlet has to suffice.

Dude, don’t try to walk 60 km in a day! That’s a marathon and a half!
I remember Lindsay from Montreal

60 km in TWO days, however, wouldn’t be that hard at all, and would mean you’d get to explore the area in between. Got a tent?
and… if the pass is lost, it will most definitely be a sign that there’s something else in store for you this summer you hadn’t thought of, and it behooves you to find out exactly what that is and fully commit yourself to it. Perhaps there’s adventure to be had in Quebec?
Hopefully the pass will be found though… Burning Man isn’t something to abandon lightly.

I can’t imagine the general public having much use for a Discovery Pass. I hope it’s still there, for your sake and for the sake of my own faith in humanity.
Also, I’m glad you’re alive. You gave us quite a scare.
Keep living. Love you.

IF the pass was stollen, first off you should file a police report, and it can’t hurt to check with Greyhound if there’s any recourse with a stollen pass. If you still have the original receipt, especially, you may be O.K. Can’t hurt to check.
OR, as Alexis said, let’s hope there wasn’t any use for the Discovery Pass by whomever walked off with your bag, or that honesty kicked in and there’s still some hope for humanity!
Good luck!
Love,
Mom

I know I haven’t been commenting, but I have been reading your entries with interest! And, strangely enough I think the Universe is compelling me to travel as well, and I’m thinking about taking off sometime at the end of August or beginning of September. I doubt mine will last more than a month, but who knows.
I had no idea that Greyhound had a discovery pass until you mentioned it, but the price.. seems a little high to me. I’ll consider it only if I think my travels will cost me more without a pass. But hey if you’re going to be traveling still, we could try to make arrangements to meet somewhere. I’ve got plans to go to California to visit family and friends as well as Atlanta, and a few other tentative places in mind. I’m sure I would greatly enjoy myself. Maybe I’ll take a page from your book and blog about it.
I could use tips from someone with experience, feel free to get in touch!
